Just as the Hilton name is a pretty familiar one, so too is the name of the commercial real estate firm behind the hotel chain's latest Portland hotel that will rise up in the Pearl District next year.
Menashe Properties, a three-decades-old Portland real estate investment and management company, is one of the lead partners on the new hotel project. Part of Hilton's new Canopy by Hilton brand, the hotel will be built on a quarter-block that Menashe Properties owns at Northwest Glisan Street and Ninth Avenue.
Jordan Menashe, who has worked with his father, Barry Menashe, on investment deals for the past four years, said the building that housed the Partners In Time antique store is on the property, which is bordered by Albina Bank to the west.
Menashe Properties is partnering on the hotel project with The Buccini/Pollin Group, a real estate development and management company headquartered in Washington, D.C. David Pollin, cofounder and president of The Buccini/Pollin Group, is the son of Harold Pollin, whose Pollin Hotels owns three hotels at the Portland International Airport.
Menashe said the new Hilton will have 153 rooms and that construction will likely begin in September 2015. Even though the boutique hotel will be a Hilton brand, Menashe said it will have a uniquely Portland flavor to it.
"It will really cater to the Portland scene," he said. "People will say, 'Let's go to the Canopy to have a drink,' and they'll know they'll be getting a real Portland experience."
