Besaw’s owner Cana Flug has publicly announced the new location for her historic Portland eatery: a new building on the corner of NW 21st and Raleigh, right next to New Seasons Slabtown, set to open sometime this fall.
The 112-year old bistro shuttered this spring when the building’s landlord, C.E. John, chose to redevelop the plot and rebrand the Besaw’s space as its own. After months of legal battle, Flug came away with the Besaw’s name, with plans to incorporate some of the original details into the new space. Also in the blueprint: an outdoor patio and custom brick oven.
Besaw’s chef, Michael Uhnak, will be back in the kitchen, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, seven days a week. Meanwhile, Flug teases a new restaurant project in tandem with Besaw’s, but the details are still under wraps. “We’ve made every effort to preserve the heart and soul of Besaw’s, to create a gathering place that will feed Portlanders for another 112 years.”
