2013 Interior Design Forecast from Portland Interior Designer Thomas Paine

“What I'm most excited about for 2013 is new technology and how it applies to Interior Design.  Cloud based technology has so vastly improved how we live.  No more bulky video libraries, DVD / video players, recipe boxes & file cabinets.  Remember CD Towers??

My new home office for this year is going to be a fabulous 19th Century Neo-Classic Burl Walnut Secretaire.  It looks great anywhere and I can take it with me if I move.  Imagine all the room I’m going to save. I’m thinking Gift Wrapping Room! …

Color Trends:  The Emergence of purples, violets, pinks, lavenders and blues is fascinating to me.  They are always the pre-curser to a great economy.  -Always!

Emerald Green will be huge this year as well.  I think accessories like pillows and arrangements in small doses are always best within a creamy traditional neutral palette.

Floral Prints, geometrics and textures such as tweeds and knits are going to be fun, not like the itchy scratchy tweeds we all grew up with in the 70's. These tweeds are made with a softer hand.  Silks, wools and cashmere wovens are the New Tweed. They look great in these new colors too.”
